The Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) has entered into an agreement with The Seam LLC, a Memphis, Tennessee-based technology company. The purpose of the agreement is to provide additional food to augment food assistance programs supported by the United States Department of Agriculture. The Seam provides internet-based global electronic exchanges for physical agricultural commodities and processed food products. A portion of CCC wheat inventory has been transferred to The Seam for sale by The Seam. The proceeds from these sales will be used to purchase processed food products that will be distributed to authorized feeding assistance outlets.
The Seam will offer wheat on its online trading system in mid-February 2008. The wheat will be offered for cash, instore purchase. Each offer will feature the quantity and quality of wheat represented by a negotiable warehouse receipt obtained from CCC. To bid for the wheat offers, interested parties must complete a Participation Agreement prior to logging on to the trading system. The Seam’s normal subscription and transaction fees are waived for this project. Information necessary for prospective buyers to complete the registration process is included in the PDF files below. All qualified participants who have completed the registration requirements will be invited to participate in an orientation and training session which will be conducted prior to activation of The Seam’s Grain Exchange.
